Jayawardene to coach Khulna Titans

Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as head coach of the Khulna Titans.

Jayawardene, who represented Dhaka Dynamites in the 2016 Bangladesh Premier League, has been signed on a two-year deal.

This will be the Sri Lankan's second coaching job. He had a very successful stint with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, leading the side to their third title earlier this month. He has also worked as a batting consultant for the England cricket team.

"I enjoyed playing in the BPL last year and that has given me great insight into what will be required to be successful in the tournament," Jayawardene said. "BPL is an exciting tournament for Bangladesh, as well the region as a whole, and I am excited to be partnering with one of the most respected and forward-thinking franchises in the league," the former Sri Lanka captain added.

Jayawardene replaces Australian coach Stuart Law, who left his position to take over the West Indies.

The fifth edition of the Bangladesh domestic Twenty20 tournament is set to start from November 4 this year and the Khulna Titans, skippered by Mahmudullah Riyad, will be making their second appearance in the competition.

We were thrilled to see him win the IPL recently as the coach of the Mumbai Indians. I am sure all of us Titans will learn a lot from him and the tournament will be enriched by his presence" said managing director Kazi Inam Ahmed.
