India stun Indonesia to win Thomas Cup
The Indian men's badminton team today made history by winning their first Thomas Cup title after beating holders and 14-time champions Indonesia 3-0 in the final at the Impact Arena in Thailand.
Kidambi Srikanth defeated Jonatan Christie in straight games 21-15, 23-21 to seal the title without losing a match.
Earlier, Lakshya Sen gave India a 1-0 lead by beating Indonesia's Anthony Ginting.
India went up 2-0 when Satwiksairaj Rankireddey and Chirag Shetty came from a game down to beat Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo 18-21, 23-21, 21-19.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi quickly took to the Twitter to congratulate the Indian team.
"The Indian badminton team has scripted history! The entire nation is elated by India winning the Thomas Cup! Congratulations to our accomplished team and best wishes to them for their future endeavours. This win will motivate so many upcoming sportspersons," he tweeted.
