Archer Rubel impresses with a place in the top 10
Archer Hakim Ahmed Rubel became ninth in the qualification round of the Recurve individual event of the Archery World Cup Stage-1 in Antalya, Turkey on Wednesday.
Rubel scored 670 out of 720, 18 less than the top finisher Mete Gazoz from Turkey.
One hundred and thirty-three archers took part in the event in which three more Bangladesh archers –- Sagor Islam, Ram Krishna Saha and Abdur Rahman Alif –- took part and finished 36th, 75th and 86th with scores of 658, 644 and 640 respectively.
However, archer Diya Siddique failed to live up to her pedigree as she finished 76th amongst 105 competitors with a score of 620 out of 720, 57 less than top-scorer Alejander Valencia of Italy.
Diya's dismal scores left Bangladesh to finish 26th among 33 nations in the Mixed Recurve event, while Bangladesh Men's Recurve team finished 10th with a score of 1972
Turkey, China and Italy grabbed the top three spots by scoring 2007, 2004 and 2002 respectively.
The elimination round of Recurve event will get underway on Friday.
