Bangladesh finish sixth in Junior Asia Cup Hockey
Bangladesh Under-21 national hockey team finished sixth in the AHF Junior Asia Cup after suffering a 5-1 thrashing to Japan in a place-deciding match in Salalah, Oman yesterday.
Bangladesh had initially set their sights on the semifinal berth of the tournament but the men in red and green had to be content with a sixth-place finish as they won two out of four matches against Oman and Uzbekistan but lost to Malaysia and South Korea, who qualified for the semifinals from Pool B.
The charges of Mamunur Rashid then beat Thailand to set their encounter against Japan, who however were too hot to handle as they took a 4-0 lead before the break. Bangladesh could only get one back in the third quarter of the match but Japan restored their margin scoring in the fourth and final quarter.
