Bangladesh's Neer beats two GMs in World Rapid Chess C’ship
Bangladesh's 14-year-old International Master (IM) Manon Reja Neer defeated two Grandmasters in the World Rapid Chess Championship taking place in New York.
Manon had beaten Austrian GM Dominik Horvath in the fifth round on Thursday and today he defeated German GM Dennis Wagner.
The Bangladeshi IM also drew against Zimbabwean IM Rodwell Makoto, Kazakhstan's IM Arystanbek Urazayev and Greek FIDE Master Alexandros Papasimakopoulos in the fourth, sixth and eighth rounds respectively.
With 3.5 points after nine rounds, Manon is ranked 151st out of the 180 chess players in his category.
In the women's category, Bangladesh's Noshin Anjum is 101st out of 110 chess players with 2.5 points after eight rounds.
This is the first time chess players from Bangladesh are competing in this event.
