Mosaddek powers Abahani
A final over blitz from Mosaddek Hossain and a composed innings from Shakib Al Hasan took Abahani to fourth place in the Dhaka Premier League as they registered a three-wicket win over Prime Doleshwar in a final-over thriller at the BKSP today, but there was a bit of controversy which may take the shine off the result.
Shakib scalped a wicket followed by a cautious 45 with the bat before young Mosaddek Hossain sealed the intense chase with a game-changing half-century.
Chasing 192 in a match that was reduced to 28 overs-a-side due to the morning showers, Abahani required eleven runs off the last over with four wickets in hand.
Some tight bowling from Forhad Reza stunned Abahani's progress, as they could manage just one off the first three balls.
Needing ten of the last three, Mossadek, who finished with an unbeaten 57, sprinted off for a double. However, his partner at the other end, Taskin Ahmed, was slow off his mark for the second and was apparently run out.
Unfortunately, the Doleshwar players' celebrations had to be cut short as the umpire decided not to raise his finger, and since the matches are played without the benefit of technology such as instant replays, Doleshwar were denied a wicket.
Needing nine off the last two balls, Mossadek blasted the penultimate ball for six, before dispatching the third for four and took his side to victory.
The day’s other games were pushed to the reserve day due to the incessant rainfall. The game between Cricket Coaching School and Mohammedan at Fatullah was reduced to 25 overs. Salman Hossain scored a half-century to lead CCS to 149. Mohammedan will have to chase that total today.
At Mirpur, Kalabagan Cricket Academy were bundled out for 89 runs in a 21-over game. Prime Bank Cricket Club will have to chase the target today.
