Bangladesh will today observe the National Day of Sports for the first time since the United Nations General Assembly three years ago declared April 6 as the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace (IDSDP).

The IDSDP is an annual celebration of the power of sports to drive social change, community development and foster peace and understanding by creating a historical link to the first modern Olympic Games in 1896.

To mark the day, which was also declared the national sports day in Bangladesh, the National Sports Council (NSC) will hold a colourful rally with the participation of athletes, organisers, officials of different federations, sports journalists and government officials.

The rally will start in front of the Sheikh Russel Roller Skating Complex adjacent to the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) and move through the Zero Point to the National Press Club before ending at the BNS torch gate, said an NSC press release.
