BFF to increase female booters' remuneration

The members of the women's football team hardly get any financial rewards when compared to their male counterparts, although the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) does offer incentives subject to the availability of sponsors.

The BFF began providing remuneration ranging between Tk 6,000-10,000 after Dhaka Bank became involved with women's football in 2018 and BFF president Kazi Salahuddin promised to increase that figure after a meeting with the winners of the SAFF Women's Championship at the BFF House yesterday.

"To be honest, there were no limits to our demands. We requested a raise, more gear and made other smaller demands. The president promised he would meet those demands," captain Sabina Khatun said at a press briefing at the BFF house after the meeting.

Replying to a query, the 28-year-old forward added: "The president promised to give us respectable remuneration. What I am getting is enough for me. But these girls have been doing well and they deserve more. The BFF also believes that they need to increase the players' salaries."

Unlike most of her teammates, Sabina has had chances to play tournaments abroad and is scheduled to join the Maldives Defense team for a futsal tournament. She will leave for the island nation on September 30.

The Satkhira native also stressed her belief that the team would have to work harder not only to keep their newfound position intact, but to also expand their reach.

"We are now on top in South Asia, but we have to look for further improvement. I think the players in the senior team are understanding more about the game as they get older. The BFF president yesterday said that they were expecting us to lift the SAFF Women's Championship title in 2024. But we delivered it two years ahead of schedule. That is evidence of the development of women's football. If the federation continues to do its job, the women's team will reach a good position in Asia."
