HC refuses to pass order on ex-BCB chief Faruque's petition against his removal

The High Court bench today refused to pass any order on a writ petition challenging the National Sports Council's (NSC) decisions to remove Faruque Ahmed from the post of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president and appoint Aminul Islam Bulbul as his successor.
The bench of Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua also dropped the petition from its cause list after hearing arguments from the parties concerned.
Barrister Mahin M Rahman, counsel for the BCB, told The Daily Star that the bench declined to intervene as it was not convinced by the contents of the petition, and the NSC's decisions had already come into effect.
He added that the NSC's decisions will remain in force following the High Court's decision.
Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman appeared on behalf of the NSC, while Barrister Mahin M Rahman and Barrister Nasir Uddin Ahmed Ashim represented BCB president Bulbul.
Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal stood for former president Faruque during the hearing of the petition.
Yesterday, Faruque filed the writ petition challenging the legality of the NSC's decision to remove him and appoint former national captain Bulbul as the new BCB president. He also sought a stay order on the move.
Bulbul was elected BCB president on Friday, a day after the NSC revoked Faruque's directorship following a vote of no confidence by a majority of the board's directors and a review of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) fact-finding committee's report.
With his election, Bulbul became the 17th president of the BCB and only the second former cricketer -- after Faruque -- to hold the position.
