The Ministry of Youth and Sports is set to issue a probe into bodybuilder Jahid Hasan's case, the minister, Zahid Ahsan Russel confirmed on Tuesday.

Jahid was given a lifetime ban by the Bangladesh Bodybuilding Federation on Monday for his disciplinary misconduct that saw the 28-year-old lose his temper and kick away his prize, a blender, on the stage during the prize-giving ceremony of the BBF National Bodybuilding Federation Championship on December 23 at the National Sports Council auditorium where he won the silver medal.

The Ansar athlete participated in the Men's Physique 170-centimetres plus category and rejected the decision of the 11-member jury that placed him second in a competition he said he was sure to win. The federation also revoked his silver medal later.

Later that evening, Jahid posted the video of the incident which went viral on social media and eventually caught the attention of the sports minister.

When asked about the incident, the minister said that they were aware of the incident and had given two officials the responsibility to investigate the matter.

"We are aware of the incident. So, we are investigating to learn what actually happened," he said.

General Secretary of BBF, Nazrul Islam welcomed the decision for an investigation into the matter saying that it would provide transparency and would justify their decision.

"I welcome this investigation. I think it will bring out the actual events. There were 11 judges of which four were international level judges and the rest were national level. We decided the winner on the basis of their judgement and made Al Amin Sojib the winner," he said.

"We have done any wrong. This probe will prove the transparency we have. It will prove that our decision was right," he added.
