Stumps: Day 2

Bangladesh 143 all out and 7-0 in 1.2 overs (South Africa 573-4 Dec)

Bangladesh are bowled out for 147 in their first innings against South Africa. And the moment Kagiso Rabada knocks Rubel Hossain's off-stump for his five-wicket haul, South Africa captain Faf Du Plessis enforced the follow-on. Openers Imrul Kayes come out to bat for the second time with a 426-run deficit. The pair put on 7 runs in 1.2 overs before umpires stop play due to bad light.

43rd Over: Liton hits four boundaries off Phehlukwayo. Every boundary is a treat to watch. He moves on to 70 and if he does not score his maiden Test ton, blame it on his more illustrious teammates.

Liton Das demonstrates how to apply on bouncy wicket as the right-hander scores a superb 50 and that too in company with Taijul Islam. He is looking solid in defence as well punching the odd ball to the fence. Liton has so far hit nine sweetly-timed boundaries. Unfortunately he is running out of partner. Taijul departed for 12 after putting on 50 runs for the seventh wicket with Liton.

Imrul Kayes becomes the fifth casualty for Bangladesh in the first over after the tea break. The left-handed opener plays a nothing shot against Rabada and is caught behind. He scored 26, the highest individual score in a miserable Bangladesh total of 61. If the wickets fall at this pace, Bangladesh might run the risk of batting for the second time today.

The fear looks a reality. Sabbir Rahman departs for a four-ball duck. He chips the ball straight to the extra-cover fielder and Rabada gets his third. Taijul comes out and the tail is exposed.

Mahmudullah is the fourth batsman back in the dressing room. He survived only two deliveries. The right-hander hit the first ball for a four. But it was a false dawn -- the experienced batsman edged the very next ball from Parnell to wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock. The question is would it have been worse had Bangladesh batted first after winning the toss?

Bangladesh are in all sorts of trouble, chasing a mammoth South Africa first innings total of 573-4 declared. They are 36-3 after 12 overs. The precession started when Soumya Sarker was bowled round his legs by Rabada for nine. Mominul Haque quickly followed him, gloving a Olivier rising delivery behind the wicket. Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim falls to the magnificent diving cattch in the slip by Bavuma. Imrul stands in the ruins with 15.

Soumya Sarkar and Imrul kayes start Bangladesh's chase after South Africa put on a massive 573-4 declared. The pair looks negotiating the pace of Kagiso Rabada well. Soumya hit the first boundary of the Bangladesh innings, a sweetly-timed square drive off Olivier.

South Africa declare their first innings at 573-4 against Bangladesh.

Right-arm pace bowler Shbashis finally breaks the fourth-wicket stand when he has hashim Amla clean bowled in the first over after the lunch break. Amla shuffles across too much on the off-side to work the ball on the on-side and missed the straightish delivery. It Shubashis's third wicket. It ended a a magnifiecnt 247-run stand.

HM Amla b Subashis Roy 132 (163b 17x4 0x6) SR: 80.98

Hashim Amla and Faf Du Plessis plunder 302 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket as South Africa prosper to 530-3 at lunch on the second day of the second Test against Bangladesh.

The question is now for how long SA will bat after the lunch break? They have already punshied enough the wayward and ordinary Bangladesh bowling attack that failed to create any chance to break the partnership. Perhaps the only ball that could have removed Amla was a beautiful outswinger from Shubashis Roy in the penultimate over before lunch. Unfortunate there was not enough men in the slip cordon.

Du Plessis completes his century with a beautiful flick of his pads off Mustafizur Rahman. It is his seventh Test hundred and comes off 148 balls and contains 12 fours.

Hashim Amla brings up his 28th Test century with a sublime drive down to the backward point bounday off left-arm pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman. With this century he surpassed former captain Graeme Smith as the leading centurion for South Africa. Du Plessis is also not far away from completing his hundred.

Play starts and South Africa resumes from where they had left of. Hashim Amla is moving towards another century and so is SA captain Faf Du Plessis.

3.15pm: Rain has stopped. The Bangladesh players are out in the middle. They have started jogging. Opner Imrul Kayes, who left the ground in the final session yesterday after being hit by a ball on his knee, also joins the team in the jogging. Meawhile, match officials confirns that the play starts at 3.30pm and the lunch break at 4.00pm as scheduled.

Rain holds up the second day's play of the second Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at Mangaung Oval in Bleomfontein today. The rain actually is delaying the march of the rampant home side that took the wayward Bangladesh bowlers to the cleaners on the opening day when they racked up 428 for the loss of three wickets.

Hashim Amla is batting on 89 with his skipper Faf Du Plessis, who is unbeaten on 62. The pair so far put on 140 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket after openers Dean Elgar and Markrm produced 243 runs in quick time.

At the moment it looks like inclement weather threatens to consume most of the first session of the second day. The groundstaff needs at least an hour to prepare the ground for the play to resume.
