Shakib still Numero Uno
Bangladesh cricket team’s iconic player Shakib Al Hasan topped the list of ICC Test rankings for all-rounders with 384 points, 18 ahead of India’s Ravichandran Ashwin.
Shakib’s exploits both with the bat and ball against Zimbabwe, both at home and abroad gave this incredibly talented cricketer the coveted ‘Numero Uno’ position ahead of names like Stuart Broad, Vernon Philander, Mitchell Johnson and R Ashwin.
With solid performances in Brisbane and Perth, Kane Williamson, the New Zealand top-order batsman, and David Warner, the Aussie opener, have narrowed the gap on AB de Villiers, the South African swashbuckler, who currently occupies the top spot in the ICC Rankings for Test batsmen.
According to the latest rankings published on Wednesday (November 18), Williamson, New Zealand's top-scorer with two centuries and a fifty in the ongoing Test series in Australia, has climbed up three places to join Steven Smith, the Aussie skipper, in the second spot. David Warner, who smashed an entertaining 253 in Perth, is also on the ascent, moving up to fifth spot. While Williamson is only six points behind de Villiers, Warner trails the former by 13.
Ross Taylor, another double centurion in the Perth Test, has broken into the top ten while Hashim Amla, who is going through a lean patch in India, moved down two places to sixth spot. At the 12th spot, Murali Vijay is the highest-ranked Indian with Cheteshwar Pujara (14th) and Virat Kohli (17th) catching up.
Among the bowlers, Dale Steyn retains his No. 1 position while James Anderson, the England speedster, is joint-second with Yasir Shah, the Pakistan spinner. Mitchell Johnson, the Australian fast bowler who called time on his international career after the Perth Test, signed off at the ninth spot.
Ravichandran Ashwin is the highest-ranked Indian at the fifth spot while Ravindra Jadeja's recent run of form has enabled him to jump up by eight places, to occupy the 13th spot.
