No words to describe, says Tamim
Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal showered praises on his two young guns Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Afif Hossain Dhrubo, who showed great character with the bat to guide the home side to a four-wicket victory against Afghanistan in the first of the three-match ODI series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.
"Honestly, I did not believe we could win after 45/6," Tamim said during the post-match presentation today with a smile of relief on his face.
"I have no words to describe the two for their incredible innings. Afghanistan have a brilliant attack but Mehedi and Afif did well. Hopefully this is a start for them and they win us many more games. So happy and proud of them," the proud Bangladesh skipper added.
Afif and Mehedi stitched an unbeaten 174-run seventh-wicket stand to help Bangladesh stage one of the greatest comebacks.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan captain Hasmatullah Shahidi also praised the resilient effort of Bangladesh batters after losing six wickets while mentioning they look forward to making a comeback in the series.
"We had a good start but they played very well without giving a chance, which was incredible. We were 30-runs short but the way Fazal started was great but credit to them for fighting back. This was just the start but there are two more games to go and we will look to come back," Shahidi said.
