Tigers’ sporting gesture gives Rahmat a reprieve
Bangladesh players' sporting gesture helped Afghanistan batter Rahmat Shah survive a run-out in their second ODI at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today.
The incident took place in the 17th over of the game. Just in the previous delivery, Najibullah Zadran was dropped by Shoriful Islam off Shakib Al Hasan. And in the very next ball when Zadran smashed one straight towards the stumps, Shakib, while attempting to stop it, seemingly had his finger touch the ball.
The ball went on to hit the stumps and non-striker Rahmat, who was way out of his crease, was given out by the umpire. Shakib, unsure whether he had touched the ball or not, withdrew his decision. It was later reviewed by the third umpire, who also gave Rahmat out.
However, Bangladesh players decided to overturn the decision given by the third umpire as Shakib was not a hundred per cent certain if he had got his fingers on the ball.
Thanks to the sporting gesture by the Tigers, Rahmat went on to pick up his fourth ODI fifty. The right-handed opener, however, was dismissed in the 25th over after a 71-ball 52.
