Sri Lanka go for Tea unscathed

After an eventful morning session, with records made and broken in abundance, the second session on Day 2 of the second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka did not see much action at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today. 

In reply to Bangladesh's first innings score of 365, Sri Lanka got off to a solid start as they reached 84 for no loss at Tea. The visitors, however, still trail Bangladesh by 281 runs. 

Both Sri Lanka openers Oshada Fernando Dimuth Karunaratne, the Lankan skipper, scored runs with ease, barring the few chances created. Oshada has been the aggressor, bringing up his fifty off 74 deliveries with an exquisite six straight over Shakib Al Hasan's head off the all-rounder's ball. Oshada smashed a total of seven boundaries and a six so far during his unbeaten 83-ball 52 while Karunaratne scored 31 not out off 49 deliveries. 

Bangladesh did create a few chances. In fact, Khaled Ahmed's appeal for caught behind against Oshada in the very first over was given by the umpire initially. But as Sri Lanka immediately reviewed, it was revealed that the ball had brushed he batter's pads while going down the leg side. 

The biggest chance for Bangladesh was when Taijul Islam had totally bamboozled Oshada for an LBW. Beating the right-hander's outside edge, Taijul's delivery that pitched in the middle stump went on to hit the batter's back pad. Bangladesh could consider themselves unlucky to have not gotten the scalp as, despite a loud appeal, the umpire had given not out and the decision stuck in review only on umpire's call. 

Oshada once again gave a chance when he went down the track to smack a Shakib Al Hasan delivery. The batter hit it very hard and Shakib could only get a hand to it as a very tough chance went down.
