No appeal from Tigers; Bonner survives
Bangladesh's poor judgement in making appeals continued as the Tigers failed to even realise they had their man in the first session on the second day of their first Test against West Indies in Antigua today.
The incident took place in the 53rd over of the game. Windies batter Nkrumah Bonner, who was unbeaten on 14 at that time, was beaten by an Ebadot Hossain delivery that pitched outside off and held its line, enticing the batter to play at it.
The ball, seemingly, had just gone past the outside edge and to the wicketkeeper. But no appeal followed from the Tigers' camp. However, moments later, the ultraedge technology showed in a replay that Bonner in fact had edged it and would have been given out had there been an appeal from the Tigers. Even members of the Tigers' team management signalled it was out from the pavilion just after the over.
This is not the first time that Bangladesh misjudged a potential chance for a wicket. Prior to this Test, Bangladesh had seen a total of 33 unsuccessful reviews in the six Tests played in their last three series. During the same period, the Tigers were only able to take 17 successful reviews.
Bangladesh even lost two of their reviews yesterday. One against Brathwaite when Shakib decided to go for a review feeling there was an edge through to the wicket-keeper in the 33rd over off his own bowling before Mustafizur went for a review on a leg-before decision against Nkrumah Bonner in the 44th over but the ball was missing the stumps after rapping the pads.
Having bundled out Bangladesh for just 103 in their first innings yesterday, the Windies are firmly in control of the game right now with 122 for two after 60 overs with a 19-run lead. The Windies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite reached his 26th Test fifty and has also stitched a fifty-stand with Bonner in the middle.
