Chattogram surprise with change in captaincy and coach
There was a surprise from Chattogram Challengers in their match against Sylhet Sunrisers today as they announced that Mehedi Hasan Miraz has been replaced by Naeem Islam as captain of the side.
The Chattogram franchise Facebook page posted that Naeem was the new captain of the side. During the toss, Naeem was asked about the decision as confusion reigned. "Mehedi wants to focus on his game, that's why he stepped down," Naeem said.
Confusion reigned when it was learned that coach Paul Nixon had also left for England after being called in by his county club Leicester and he will conduct team meetings through Zoom for the rest of the tournament as part of the team management. Later, Chattogram's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Yasir Ali said that coach Nixon had guided the decisions in regards to change of captaincy.
"Naeem will take over the captaincy of Chattogram. Shaun Tait [pace bowling coach] will take over as the head coach. Paul Nixon has left due to his responsibilities with his county. The changes were guided by Nixon. The changes came due to some internal problems," Yasir told The Daily Star today.
Mehedi captained the side in four games before Naeem took over. Sylhet won the toss today and Chattogram are batting in the night match of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League at the moment.
