‘No need to smash every ball in T20s’

"There's no need to smash every ball in the T20s," said Tamim Iqbal after his scintillating unbeaten century aided Minister Group Dhaka to thrash Sylhet Sunrisers by nine wickets in the latest Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League encounter at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram yesterday.

Despite the Chattogram wicket being a batting-friendly wicket, it still demands application from the batters. And Tamim, well assisted by his opening partner Mohammad Shahzad, made it look easy on the night as Dhaka chased a 176-run target without breaking a sweat.  

Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim, after declaring on Thursday that he won't be part of Bangladesh's T20I side for six months, gave the recipe for success for the batters in the shortest format.

"If you lose two early wickets while chasing 180 runs or try to chase in 9 overs, it's not possible to win. You have to give yourself time and play according to the merit of the ball. We did just that and that's how we won the match," a pleased Tamim said after the match.

"You have to work hard to develop your skills and to overcome any weakness that exists.

"Cricketing shots should always be preferred while keeping yourself in shape. Then in this version, one can be successful," the dashing left-hander reiterated.
