Simmons smashes first ton of BPL eighth edition
Lendl Simmons struck the maiden hundred of the ongoing eighth edition of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League today, helping his side Sylhet Sixers to post a challenging total against Minister Group Dhaka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
Thanks to Simmons' 65-ball 116, Sylhet posted 175 for five.
It was the second T20 hundred for Simmons and the 22nd hundred in the history of BPL.
The right-hander brought up his century in style as he smashed Ebadot Hossain for a boundary to reach the three-figure mark off just 59 deliveries.
Since reaching his hundred Simmons went on to strike two fours and a six to Andre Russell before being caught at long-on in the same over after a knock that was laced with 14 boundaries and five maximums.
Courtesy of Simmons' carnage, Sylhet went on to add 51 runs in the last five overs of the innings.
Sylhet skipper Mosaddek Hossain, who struck a four and a six, remained unbeaten on 13 off eight balls as he helped his side reach a fighting total.
Sylhet, however, had lost way in the middle since Anamul Haque (18) departed after adding fifty for the opening stand with Simmons. But Simmons stayed firm at one end and reached his fifty off 34 balls.
Dhaka managed to dry up the runs after the power play with Mashrafe Bin Mortaza taking a sharp return catch to dismiss Colin Ingram on a duck while leg spinner Qais Ahmed dismissed Mohammad Mithun on six.
