Stripped of captaincy, Miraz wants to leave Chattogram

Just a day after Mehedi Hasan Miraz was replaced by Naeem Islam as the captain of BPL franchise Chattogram Challengers, the all-rounder has decided to leave the franchise and is set to return to Dhaka today.

Although according to the official email that Miraz sent to the CEO of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the reason for his return to Dhaka is due to his mother's illness, it is widely believed that cricketer wants to return to Dhaka as a result of being stripped of captaincy.

"I have already emailed to the BCB CEO that I am going to Dhaka by following all the health protocol due to my mother's sickness," Miraz told media.

The 24-year-old led Chattogram for the first four games and was replaced by Naeem hours before the fifth game against Sylhet Sunrisers on Saturday. There were talks that the Chattogram head coach Paul Nixon prescribed the change to the team management before his departure for UK.

"It was embarrassing for me when I heard just hours before the game that I won't captain the side. I don't know why they removed me from captaincy as I have been performing well and the team also did well under my leadership. Even the team management and the coach were happy too," Miraz said.

Meanwhile, the chief operating officer of Chattogram, Yeasir Alam, informed that the franchise is trying to communicate with Miraz to find a solution to the issue.

"We have already had a meeting with him and we are trying to sit with him again. It was a decision of the team management to replace him with Nayeem. We have seen in the news that Paul Nixon had suggested removing him from the captaincy which is not right. He is still in the team hotel and we are hoping to solve the issue. It's embarrassing for us and we think Miraz has a bright future for Bangladesh," said Yeasir.
