Unwell Afif leaves match midway through
Chattogram Challengers suffered their fifth defeat in the Bangladesh Premier League failing to chase down Rangpur Rider's 179 for six owing to an underwhelming collective effort with the bat at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Monday.
Skipper Shuvagata Hom's 31-ball 52 was the highlight of Chattogram's batting effort but it wasn't enough as they were bundled out for 124 in the 17th over.
Attempting to chase down a big total, Chattogram were a batter short losing Afif Hossain who was supposed to come in at three.
Earlier, the 23-year-old fielded and bowled two overs giving away 13 runs as Chattogram decided to bowl first after winning the toss but the all-rounder was forced out of action due to illness at the innings break as he went back to the hotel afterwards.
The left-handed batter came into the match with mild fever and the team management left it up to him to decide whether to play or not, Chattogram Challengers confirmed.
"He was feeling a bit ill before the match. It was probably gastric issues. He felt ill after fielding and couldn't come out to bat," Hom said after the match.
