Liton Das responded brilliantly after getting dropped from Bangladesh's provisional 15-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy by bringing up his maiden century in competitive T20s while playing for Dhaka Capitals against Duranta Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.

Liton, who had been dropped from the national team for his poor run in ODIs the previous year, reached the three-figure mark in just 44 balls – which is the fastest ever for a Bangladeshi batter in BPL and second fastest overall.

Not only Liton, his opening partner Tanzid Hasan Tamim also wreaked havoc, making 108 off 64 balls with the help of six fours and eight sixes as the pair shattered the record for the biggest ever partnership for any wicket in BPL history, overtaking the 201-run stand between Chris Gayle and Brendan McCullum for Rangpur Riders back in 2017.

The right-hander had shown signs of coming back to form the previous match as well, making 73 off 43 balls against Sylhet Strikers. But today against Rajshahi, Liton was at his brilliant best, hitting eight fours and seven towering sixes on his way to completing the ton inside the 16th over.

Liton carried his bat till the end, hitting a straight six off Shafiul Islam to remain unbeaten on 125 off just 55 deliveries as Dhaka finished on 254-1, the highest ever total in BPL history.
