BPL 2025

Didn’t want to prove anything, says Liton after BPL ton

Liton Das

Liton Das hit an explosive century in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Dhaka Capitals yesterday just hours after he was left out of Bangladesh's 15-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy for being out of form.

Liton smashed an unbeaten 125 off 55 balls with the help of 10 fours and nine sixes to help Dhaka Capitals end their six-match losing streak with a commanding 149-run win over Durbar Rajshahi at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

After hitting his maiden T20 ton, which is also the fastest century in BPL by a Bangladeshi, Liton told the media that he was not trying to prove anything to anyone.

"No, it was not about proving something. I did not want to prove anything to anyone. I just had one thing in the back of my mind and that is how I can improve my cricket. I felt for the last few days, I wasn't playing good cricket. I won't say I will perform the same way the next day as well, but I will try to continue performing the way I did today [Sunday],"

Liton still could be slotted into the Champions Trophy squad, but the 30-year-old claimed he was not thinking about that and left it up to the selectors.

"Playing in the Champions Trophy is not up to me. That's entirely the selectors' call, they will decide who will play and who will not. My job is to perform, which I wasn't able to do for some time. I was upset because of that," Liton said.

"They [selectors] felt that at the moment I did not fit into the team, that's why I'm not [in the squad]. After seeing me play, if they feel I can fit into the squad, then maybe they would call me back. That's completely their call. My focus right now is completely on BPL."
