Malan and Co power Barishal to win over Khulna
Dawid Malan's quickfire half-century and a composed finish from Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Nabi powered Fortune Barishal to a five-wicket win over Khulna Tigers in their Bangladesh Premier League match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka today.
Malan made 63 off just 37 balls while Bangladesh veterans Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah each chipped in with 24 each as Barishal reached 188-5 in 19.1 overs.
Barishal cruised through most of the chase but did hit a snag when Mahmadullah and Mushfiqur departed in consecutive deliveries in the 17th over, the former getting run out and the latter getting caught off Abu Hider.
But Pakistan's Faheem (18 off six balls) and Afghanistan's Nabi (15 off 10) formed an unbroken 36-run stand off just 16 deliveries to take them home comfortably.
Khulna used eight bowlers in the match but only three got amongst the wickets with Hider picking up a couple and Salman Irshad, who left the field injured, and Afif Hasan taking one each.
Earlier, Mohammad Naim had hit a 27-ball 51 and Mahidul Islam Ankon struck a 12-ball 27 with the help of three sixes and a couple of fours to help Khulna post a challenging total of 187-5 after they were sent to bat first.
With the win, Barishal have eight wins in 10 matches, same as table leaders Rangpur Riders, but owing to an inferior net run-rate they sit at second.
Khulna, meanwhile, remained fifth at the table with four wins in 10 games with two matches to go.
