Dhaka Capitals' newest local recruit Mosaddek Hossain on Monday said that he wants to repay the faith shown by the franchise and contribute in the team's success in the upcoming matches of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

"I had the belief that I may get an opportunity. It's a nice feeling as the opportunity has arrived. It's a new opportunity to play good cricket again," Mosaddek told reporters in Sylhet after the team's practice session ahead of their first game in the Sylhet phase against Rangpur Riders on Tuesday.

Dhaka, earlier on the day, announced the signing of the experienced all-rounder, who they informed has been included in the squad as a replacement for Asif Hasan.

Mosaddek, who led Durdanto Dhaka in the first half of the previous season of the BPL, was not picked by any team in the players' draft held in October. His poor run in last year's tournament where he amassed only 91 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 92.85, perhaps prompted the teams to steer clear from him.

In the National Cricket League T20 held in December 2024, Mosaddek played only two matches for Dhaka Metro and made only seven runs. Despite his poor form, Dhaka, who are winless after three matches, signed the experienced all-rounder.

"Mosaddek, who is known for his versatility and has a decent track record in previous BPL seasons with various franchises, brings a wealth of experience and depth to the Dhaka Capitals lineup. The franchise is optimistic about his contributions in the upcoming matches and confident that his presence will strengthen the team's performance," the franchise said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Mosaddek expressed his desire of turning things around this year for both him and his franchise, who are sitting at the bottom of the points table.

"A player can have a bad year or season. I'm not worried about it. I'm thinking of playing well. Whenever I get any opportunity, I want to contribute for the team," he said.

"If a team doesn't get momentum in franchise cricket, it becomes difficult for them. I will try so that the team can get the momentum…. I intend on giving my 100 percent for the team and contribute as much possible to help them win."
