Sabbir Rahman not picked over 'disciplinary issue', says Dhaka Capitals coach
Dhaka Capitals head coach Khaled Mahmud on Monday revealed hard-hitting batter Sabbir Rahman hasn't been named in the team's playing XI so far due to team combination as well as a disciplinary issue.
The new franchise have played three matches so far and have lost all those matches, with Sabbir not being a part of the playing XI in either of those matches.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Mahmud, talking to reporters in Sylhet on Monday, said that team combination kept out the former national cricketer out of the side for the first game while he was not considered for the next two matches due to a disciplinary breach.
"Sabbir was absent from training. He didn't come to the practice session between the second and the third game. There was a team disciplinary issue and that's why we didn't allow him to play in the third [second] game on the second [of January]," Mahmud told reporters in Sylhet.
"We didn't let him play the match for not coming to the practice on January 1. This was totally a disciplinary issue," he said, adding that he expects Sabbir to play the next game and perform well for the team.
In all three games, Dhaka's middle-order failed to give their side any decent support. Fans on social media trolled team selection and demanded Sabbir's inclusion. Dhaka will play against table-toppers Rangpur Riders in their fourth match tomorrow.
"Sabbir is a good cricketer. I hope that we can play him from the next match and he can also give his best. He is an experienced cricketer and we have a lacking of experienced cricketers in our middle-order. I think his inclusion will be good for our side," Mahmud added.
It wasn't the first time that Sabbir came under scrutiny in the BPL due to disciplinary issues.
In 2016, Sabbir was fined a big sum for breaching code of conduct, the reason of which wasn't revealed by the BCB. In the same year, he was alleged to have slapped a national teammate in the dressing room during an away series against Afghanistan in Dehradun. He was also alleged to have physically assaulted a cleaner in Rajshahi City Corporation in 2020.
