Peculiarity has often peaked in the ongoing season of the Bangladesh Premier League.  

From comical fielding lapses to jaw-dropping wides, BPL 11 has been the gift that has kept on giving. 

Fans were presented with another sampling of it when Sylhet Strikers' frontline pacer Al-Amin Hossain played no part in their group-stage fixture against Dhaka Capitals in Chattogram on Monday despite being named in the playing eleven. 

The 32-year-old did not bowl, bat, or even field, leaving Sylhet to play the match with a man down and a hoard of fans puzzled by what had transpired. His absence was felt as Dhaka managed to plunder 95 runs in the last six overs on their way to posting 196-6 in the first innings. Sylhet eventually lost the match by a narrow margin of six runs, which made the loss of a frontline pacer much more evident. 

It was later confirmed, however, that the confusion was created due to an unfortunate incident in which the right-arm pacer suffered an injury to his non-bowling arm right after the toss. Consequently, Sylhet's request to make a replacement for the player was denied by Dhaka skipper Thisara Perera.    

"He [Al-Amin] was in the playing eleven. He got injured while warming up right after the toss. After that, we called BCB's medical doctor. His non-bowling arm had swollen up. The doctor alongside us went to the opposition camp where Sujon bhai [Dhaka coach Khaled Mahmud] came forward to solve the situation. But moments later, Dhaka captain Thisara Perera refused [to allow Sylhet to replace Al-Amin]," a Sylhet team official told The Daily Star on Monday.

Teams can make changes to their lineup right until the toss after which they can only make requests to the opposition camp to allow them changes. The opposition captain makes the final call on that request.    

It was Sylhet's sixth loss of the tournament from eight matches as they continue to share the bottom spot with Dhaka.
