Group D permutation: Who will join France in last 16?
Group D
Team | Matches | Win | Draw | Loss | GD | Points |
France | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 4 | 6 |
Australia | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | -2 | 3 |
Denmark | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | -1 | 1 |
Tunisia | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | -1 | 1 |
With two wins in two, defending champions France have already guaranteed their place in the last 16, leaving Australia, Denmark, and Tunisia to fight it out for the remaining spot from Group D.
France would be at ease with qualification already in the bag, but they still can largely influence who goes through from their group.
Didier Deschamps' men have spurned the champion's curse and will go through as group champions as long as they avoid defeat against Tunisia.
If the Socceroos manage a win doubled with France's loss then both teams would be level on six points and it would come down to goal difference to decide group-winners and runners-up.
For Australia, victory against Denmark would see them qualify but the Socceroos could also go through with a draw as long as France doesn't lose to Tunisia as a win for Jalal Kadri's men would see them level on four points with Australia and would go through courtesy of a better goal difference.
Third-placed Denmark can qualify with a win over Australia provided that Tunisia don't cause an upset against reigning champions France as it would then come down to goal difference, and even goals scored, to finalise who will go through between Denmark and Tunisia.
