All eyes on Shakib as Bangladesh begin training in Pune
After a couple of rest days, the Bangladesh team had their first training session in Pune at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Ground today ahead of their fourth ICC World Cup game against India.
All eyes were on skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who is recovering from a thigh injury that he sustained during Bangladesh's last game against New Zealand in Chennai.
After warming up, the Bangladesh captain went to the nets just beside the centre pitch and had a batting session.
It was also understood that Shakib will be taken for another scan after today's training to assess how far along he is in his recovery.
Earlier, after the game against New Zealand on Friday where the Tigers suffered their second defeat in three matches, Shakib was taken for an MRI scan.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) didn't share the specifics of that report and informed the media that the all-rounder will be kept under observation for the next few days.
However, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) source told The Daily Star that Shakib had a Grade-1 tear which requires more than a week of rest to recover.
On Monday, team director Khaled Mahmud said that Shakib is no longer in pain and that his fitness would be assessed during today's training session.
The all-rounder was being monitored by the team physio Bayejidul Islam during the day's training session, just as team Mahmud had said the day before.
The other members of the team also spent some time at the nets, preparing for the potent Indian attack they will encounter on October 19.
