We had a very good plan, but couldn't execute it: Shakib
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan said that they cannot afford to be bogged down despite the heavy defeat against England today.
The Tigers stumbled to a 137-run loss in their second World Cup game at Dharmasala today after Jos Buttler's side scored 364 runs after being put in to bat.
Shakib felt their planning was good but the team did not execute their plans with the new ball.
Overnight rain had made for conditions where swing and seam could have an impact on the game and Shakib felt everything up to the toss had gone in their favour.
England openers put on 115 for the opening stand with Dawid Malan going on to score a tremendous 107-ball 140.
"Was a good toss to win, was colder weather then. There was some rain last night. We did not start well, first ten overs especially. When you give them a sniff they always come hard at us," Shakib said at post-match presentations following the loss.
The Tigers came back into the match but only slightly when Mahedi Hasan dismissed Malan before Shoriful Islam produced three wickets in quick succession. England's early platform meant they could still reach 350-plus despite Bangladesh pulling things back in the death overs.
"We came back strongly. But it was a little too late," Shakib said.
Bangladesh batting collapsed early losing three wickets inside six overs and they went four down inside nine overs when the in-form Mehedi Hasan Miraz nicked a Chris Woakes delivery through to the wicket-keeper. Fifties from Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim saw Tigers reach 227 all out.
"When you lose four early wickets in ten overs, you are not going to get 350. We had a very good plan, but we couldn't execute it. We were here and there. First five six overs the ball it was swinging nicely. That's when the momentum went to the England side. We restricted them. Here 320-330 you fancy your chances which we couldn't get," Shakib opined.
Bangladesh play New Zealand next on October 13 and Shakib obliged that tough games are coming up and they have to move on.
"Long tournament. We have to move on and we have some tough matches coming up. We cannot be bogged down. We have to move on and think about all the positives we have been doing," Shakib said.
