Win against India would be an upset, says Shakib
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has said memories of 50-over World Cup victory over England in Adelaide in 2015 would help them mentally when they take on India at the same venue in the T20 World Cup Super 12 match on Wednesday.
Bangladesh, with four points from three games, are yet to face India and Pakistan in the Super 12 and are still in contention for the final four. However, they will have to win both matches to make it through.
Shakib, speaking at the pre-match press conference, said the memories of 2015, when Bangladesh beat England to reach the quarterfinals for the first time, will help them mentally.
"Only two of us (myself and Taskin) left from that team. It's a good memory. Hopefully that memory will help us here," Shakib said.
The Bangladesh skipper, however, said that if they do manage to beat India, it will be an upset as they would go into the match as underdogs.
"India is the favourite team, they came here to win the World Cup. We are not favourites, we didn't come here to win the World Cup," Shakib said.
"We know it very well that if we win against India, it will be called an upset. We will try to play our best cricket, and try to make an upset," the world's number one all-rounder added.
Shakib, however, said they would not take this match any differently just because they are playing against the No. 1 ranked side in the world.
"No, as I said before the first match in the World Cup, every match is important for us. We want to play with the same mentality. We don't want to worry about which country we're playing against in which situation. We just want to enjoy that moment. So we will have the same plan."
