The ninth edition of the ICC men's T20 World Cup kicks off on June 2 [Bangladesh time], with Canada facing one of the hosts the USA in Dallas. As the cricketing world gears up for another thrilling event, let's delve into some interesting facts about the captains of the 20 participants -- this time, focusing on Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga.
WANINDU HASARANGA
Wanindu Hasaranga has been one of the most exciting all-rounders going around in white-ball cricket for some time.
His brilliant wrist-spin bowling along with the long array of strokes under his disposal make him an ideal addition to any T20 outfit.
Hasaranga, who was the second fastest to complete 100 scalps in T20Is (63) behind Afghanistan's Rashid Khan, has appeared in the previous two editions of the ICC T20 World Cup, where he has claimed 31 wickets in 16 games at an excellent economy rate of 5.81.
He also has one half-century under his belt in the tournament, a 47-ball 71 against Ireland in the 2021 edition in the UAE.
This will be Hasaranga's maiden campaign as captain of Sri Lanka and the all-rounder will be leading an exciting group of players in the USA and the West Indies that has the ability to go deep into the competition.
