Young Tigers beat England by five wickets
Bangladesh youths thump their England counterparts by 5 wickets in the fifth place deciding match of the ICC Under-19 World Cup at Queenstown in New Zealand today.
The victory salvaged some pride for the young Tigers after their heavy 131-run defeat in the quarterfinal against India. The win also came as a relief a day after the senior team's capitulation in the tri-series final at home against Sri Lanka. The win exacted a sweet revenge against England, who had earlier won the group league game by seven wickets with plenty of overs to spare.
The win also marked an improvement for the Bangladesh youths in a conditional quite challenging for them.
Sent into bat, England were bowled out for 216 against some controlled bowling from pacer Hasan Mahmud and spinning all-rounder Afif Hossain. Mahmud took three wickets for 29 runs in his ten overs. His new-ball partner Qazi Onik took two wickets for 46 runs.
Off-spinner Afif effectively dashed England's late surge with three wickets for 18 runs in his 5.2 overs.
Afif then scored a brilliant 71 after skipper Saif Hasan's 59 as Bangladesh raced to 220-five in 47.3 overs.
Player of the match Afif hit seven fours and a six in his polished 86-ball knock.
