Car catches fire in Dhaka

A car of a ride-sharing service caught fire in Dhaka’s Farmgate area this afternoon.

The incident took place around 4:30pm when the five-seater private car misfired its engine, causing fire in the engine and the front portion of the car, said its driver Sirajul Islam.

No one was injured as passengers and driver came out of the car immediately after it caught fire, said Kajol, senior station officer of Mohammadpur Fire Brigade.

Pedestrians and traffic police officials doused the fire, he added.

The cause of the engine misfire is yet to be ascertained.
