Brikkho Mela sees good response from gardening enthusiasts
The ongoing month-long Brikkho Mela (Tree Fair) in Dhaka is receiving a good response from gardening enthusiasts in the capital.
Amid the global climate change that is threatening the world of a bleak future, trees are our only lifeline to combat the crisis. Planting trees not is not only beneficial for the environment, is also important for our own survival and for the sake of a better world for the future generations.
With the aim to encourage and promote gardening and planting trees among the people, this year’s Brikkho Mela began on June 20 at Agargaon in the capital.
A total of 105 public and private nurseries have brought in thousands of indigenous and exotic plants at the fair. The plants,ranging from saplings to timbers, are selling at between Tk 50 to Tk 30,000 or more depending on their specialties.
The saleof plants at the fair is satisfactory, said nursery owners and organisers.
Rooftop and indoor gardening are being encouraged at the fair this year. Plant varieties which can be grown on rooftops and indoors are also in higher demand at the fair compared to other varieties, the said.
The fair will continue till July 20.
