NRC-CAA protest makes its way to Kolkata football field

On January 19, East Bengal and Mohonbagan faced off in Kolkata for the 1st derby of the I-league season.

Even though the game had everything that you’d expect from derby day, it was the National Register of Citizens-Citizen Amendment Act (NRC-CAA) that took centre stage.

Both set of fans came together in the stadium to protest against the controversial citizenship bill. A big banner flew in the stadium that translated to “Land bought with blood, not paper”.

The Indian government have been facing heavy criticism for their controversial citizenship bill, and the traditionally rival teams came together to show their discontent while holding the Indian flag.
