Pabna student cabinet polls held peacefully
Students of 548 educational institutions, including 313 high schools and 235 madrasas, recently joined the Student Cabinet elections to elect their leaders.
The voting took place from 9:00am to 2:00pm and the vote counting began afterwards on Saturday, January 25, 2020.
The students themselves performed as election commissioners, polling agents, candidates and other election related works, enriching their experiences.
“My parents go to the polling centres to cast their votes in the national elections, but I am not allowed there yet. I eagerly wait for my chance to vote,” said Monira Sultana, an eighth-grader at Krishnapur Girls High School.
“The student cabinet election brought me the opportunity to perform in election work,” she added.
“Through the Student Cabinet election, I came to learn the official works of holding an election. This is obviously a brilliant opportunity to learn the democratic procedure,” said Ahona Karim, a tenth-grade student who performed the role of an election commissioner during the polls.
“The Student Cabinet election helped building awareness among the schoolchildren about election procedure and democratic practices which will help them in future, said Md Moslem Uddin, Pabna district education officer.
