According to the government, Bangladesh is now self-sufficient in food production, especially in rice production. But we still have to rely on imports in order to meet the nutritional demands of our population. What does self-sufficiency mean then?

Experts fear that the biggest challenge for Bangladesh is to produce enough nutritious and safe food, as well as to ensure its proper distribution, and keep it within people's purchasing power -- considering the increasing population and reducing arable land.
