It's that time of year again, where you can walk down the streets and smell freedom in the air. The tunes of Joy Bangla will seep in through your ears and shoot straight to the heart, as it will swell with the pride of victory. To really get into the spirit and contribute to the happenings and surroundings of the country at this time, there are a couple of things you can do. Follow them to love your country even more than you do right now!
1. Buy a flag- Why I am asking you to buy one from the streets is that a lot of people who are stricken with poverty sell these flags to not only show their own spirit of freedom, but also make a living. If you really want to help your country, help the people on the streets. Buy a flag, decorate your home (or car, like they do now) and help a person in need- one of the best ways to celebrate the freedom of the nation.
2. Listen to the songs of freedom- Believe me, these songs will raise your adrenaline level to a maximum as you will feel overwhelming pride. Through these songs, you can relive the days of 71 and realise the dedication, blood, sweat, tears and love that they put to make this country what it is. Songs like Joy Bangla, Mora Ekti Phool Ke Bachabo, Shuno Ekti Mujiborer Theke, Dhono Dhanne Pushpe Bhora will hit the sweet spots, for sure.
3. Visit Muktijuddho Jadughar (Liberation War Museum)- This visit will show you the exact horrors and sacrifice that our freedom fighters faced and gave for our victory. Through every section, through every photograph and every war weapon, you feel both the dreadfulness of the war, and the pride for our countrymen. You will feel thankful to be able to walk down the streets and call this country your own home. I can guarantee that you will walk out of the place, overwhelmed, and with goose bumps. It will be an experience you will never, ever forget.
4. Talk to a freedom fighter- We are privileged to have many freedom fighters living amongst us today, who saw the war upfront and were ready to sacrifice their lives for their country. You can never know the exact feeling of sacrifice unless you talk to a freedom fighter as they relive each and every moment.
5. Celebrate unity- The one thing our freedom fighters had in the days of '71 was unity. That is the unity that we must celebrate not only this month, but always. That unity is the one that will carry us forward forever and make us stronger every day. As the saying goes, 'united we stand, divided we fall'.
After you do these five activities, you will feel a replenished love for your nation and your people. So go ahead and take part in the spirit of 16th December. We wish all our readers a happy Victory day from the Star Weekend.
