Mental health is something that we seldom talk about. We don't see it, we can't touch it, we don't see any blood; how is it that mental health disorders are said to have serious impact on our health? In fact, according to a recent report by the ICDDRB, mental health disorders contribute to 13 percent of the global burden of disease. Despite the fact that low and middle-income countries, like Bangladesh, experience a higher burden of mental disorders, mental health conditions are not given the priority as expected, for which the patients are held captive in their own minds.
