Let the art begin!
Art Battle® is an international painting competition that has been gaining momentum across the art arenas worldwide. According to their website, Art Battle® has produced more than 1,200 public events so far, hundreds of private and charity events, and dozens of high profile murals since 2001 – across the US and Canada, and around the world. Recently, Art Battle Dhaka was orchestrated successfully at the MIDAS Center, where young and talented artists from all over the city gathered to entertain the crowd with their strokes of creativity.
In the midst of the paint on their palettes, and 20 minutes in hand, the participating artists worked their brushes on the canvases as the timer ticked away. With the DJ spinning hip tunes, the surroundings were soon adorned with vibrant works of art that ranged from abstract to contemporary. The first round was conducted with eight participants, during which the audience encircled the easel before they cast their votes. Round two followed the same procedure, after which a total of four contestants were selected (two from each round) for the final battle. After every round, paintings were up for a silent auction.
At the end, Venessa Kaiser was voted the champion of the first Art Battle Dhaka event. Saima Khan was the first runner-up, closely followed by Navid Newage as the second runner-up. When asked how she felt, Venessa Kaiser replied, "I am very happy that such a competition is finally taking place in Dhaka. Usually, the art scene here is synonymous with the senior people, so, the younger ones have less opportunity to manifest their talents. I hope this will continue in the future as well."
Art Battle Dhaka was hosted by Max Mystel, who managed to steer the crowd throughout the process with his occasional comedic twists. For the event, the Radio Partner was Radio Next 93.2 FM and the Digital Media Partner was Studio Baklava.
