Solution for Pollution

While our streets are being littered with plastic bottles and empty packs of chips are hampering the fertility of farmlands, there is no denying that the majority of us are still unaware of the negative implications such acts would result to in the future. Plastic is a non-biodegradable waste, which means, if not discarded properly, we are polluting the environment.

To create awareness about plastic pollution and discourage the youth from taking part in it, Youth Opportunities, International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and Star Youth, The Daily Star, have organised "Turn the Pollution into Solution" Challenge 2018. This eco-friendly project has been designed to promote the theme of the upcoming World Environment Day 2018, which is, "Beat the Plastic Pollution". By using discarded plastic containers innovatively, the participant will be asked to plant trees. After creating a small garden of such trees, the participant would be required to share a photograph of the garden publicly from their Facebook account with the caption "Beating the Plastic Pollution". Additionally, two customised hashtags, #PollutionIntoSolution and #StarYouth, must be mentioned in the public post.

All the participants will be given an e-certificate for partaking in the competition. Based on outstanding photographs and innovative captions, 10 winners will be invited for a prize giving ceremony. Each of them will receive a certificate, a crest, a book and plants as token of appreciation. Also, the best photograph will be awarded with a special prize.

The competition will result in the use of hundreds of discarded plastics for tree plantation. This would eventually contribute for the betterment of the environment. Also, by sharing the photographs on Facebook, participants will be creating awareness amongst their peers and will be encouraging hundreds of their friends to beat the plastic pollution.

The last date to take part in the challenge is June 5, 2018, which also coincides with the World Environment Day 2018.
