Making ideal person through creative education
South Point School and College began its journey in 2002 with a mission to shape an individual's mind through co-curricular activities and make them a confident and ideal human being. The organisation never believes in the approach of memorisation to achieve good results. It was established by Principal Hamida Ali, former founder teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon College, under the patronage of prominent industrialist engineer MA Rashid, leader of Karnafuly Ship Builders. It started with only 200 students in the Gulshan area of the capital city but now, 15,000 students are studying here.
Apart from English and Bengali medium, English version is also taught at this institution from playgroup to 12th grade. This institution is now being run with unique features and specialties in a total of six areas of Dhaka city, namely Malibagh, Baridhara, Banani, Mirpur, Uttara and Dholai Par. The construction of the new campus on a plot of 6 bigha land is in progress in Malibagh. Along with this, the construction of the 10-storey building is also going on. In Uttara, 7 bigha of land has also been taken. In Baridhara, nine and three storied buildings have been built. Entering the large courtyard, there are escalators and several large elevators. There are powerful generators to keep the facilities running in the absence of electricity. Also, there is a spacious auditorium, modern library lab with high speed internet facility, hygienic canteen etc. Digitisation of textbooks and developing smart classes are also in process.
Here, creative approaches are followed in teaching and exam methods, where students get the opportunity to think and learn through analysis and conceptualisation. The teachers explain topics based on real examples. The students' minds are trained in such a way that they create questions and find answers on their own to feed their curious mind after learning a new topic in the classroom.
The passing rate of South Point School and College is enviable. It has 100 per cent passing rate every year. Along with this, the number of GPA-5 or A-plus students is also increasing with each year. The rate of GPA-5 students stands between 80 and 90 per cent every year. In 2009, the institution was recognised as the best educational institution by the Dhaka Education Board and achieved 9th place in the Higher Secondary Examination the same year.
South Point was ranked sixth in Dhaka city on the basis of its 100 per cent pass rate in the combined merit list in 2019. All of South Point's 452 students passed that year. A total of 296 students got GPA-5.
However, not only in SSC-HSC, but also South Point has topped the latest JSC exam results at the Gulshan police station in secondary and higher secondary education board's police station-based grading result. Among them, 18 students got scholarships in the talent pool.
South Point's English-medium students won the "Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award and The Daily Star Award' for achieving the country's highest results in O' and A-Level examinations. In the latest 2019 examinations, each O-Level student at the Banani branch achieved A+ in 6 subjects and A grades for the rest while in A-Level examinations, they achieved A+ in 3 subjects and A in the rest. Thus, 79 per cent of the students in O-Level and 57 per cent of those in A-Level respectively achieved The Daily Star award. And its students performed well in the subsequent years as well.
South Point is creating confident and creative role models through educational programs, sports, debates and so forth. The institution has been achieving consistent success in debates and other competitions. At the recent Western Asian Schools Chess Competition 2022 in Maldives, Warshia Khushbu, an English medium student of South Point's Malibagh campus won the gold medal. She also continued the streak of champions in Asian School Chess for two years in a row. Besides, the South Point Sports Club team won the second runner-up position in the International Throwball Competition held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2018.
Female students of South Point School and College, Malibagh campus have stood undefeated champions twice consecutively in the Bangladesh Television National Debate Competition. Adila Rawan, a 9th grade student of South Point School has stood first in Bangladesh in PowerPoint Presentation this year. In addition, Sinchana Acharya Suha, a student of the institution's Malibag campus, won first place in classical music in Bangladesh. It is to be noted that recently the students of English medium of the Malibagh campus became champions in the Biology Olympiad.
Meanwhile, South Point Banani campus is conducting the German language education program under the PASCH program of the German Cultural Center. Under which, students are getting higher education opportunities through various competitions, including travelling to Germany with scholarship facilities. In 2013, a group of students from the Banani campus visited NASA in the USA. Another talented student participated in the 'Global Citizenship Workshop' held at Jakarta, Indonesia. Apart from it, Saalil Ayman Araf from the Banani campus achieved 'Top in Bangladesh' in the subject 'Mathematics Syllabus D', the highest standard mark for Cambridge O Level exam in June 2022. Thus, South Point School has achieved the trust of guardians through its creative teaching methods.
South Point School and College (SPSC), Banani, Students Received Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award for the Country Highest Marks
Rizvi Hasan Khan and Saalil Ayman Araf from South Point School and College (English Medium, Banani) have been accorded the Outstanding Learner Award by Cambridge Assessment International Education, UK for their extraordinary performance in O Level and A Level examination. Rizvi Hasan achieved the country highest marks in Accounting, while Saalil Ayman scored the country highest marks in Mathematics (syllabus D) in their A Level and O Level examinations of May/June 2022 session under the Cambridge Assessment International Examinations, UK. SPSC (Banani) Principal Matiur Rahman stated that the students from this school have been frequently achieving exceptional results in both O Level and A Level Examinations. Also, in 2012 and 2017 respectively, two students achieved the Country Highest Marks in Bangla. Truly, SPSC, Banani, has now become a premier English medium education provider in Dhaka city as most of its O Level and A Level students often qualify for the prestigious 'The Daily Star Award'.
