Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Mahfuj Alam has expressed his intention to turn the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) into a fully-fledged composite film city. Highlighting its central location and existing infrastructure, he said BFDC holds immense potential to house all aspects of filmmaking—ranging from shooting and editing to dubbing and post-production—under one roof.
Shooting for “Tandob”, directed by Raihan Rafi, has commenced this week at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). Actors Shakib Khan and Jaya Ahsan have already joined the production.
Despite playing a critical role in the nation’s film industry, the organisation has been hampered by inefficiency and mismanagement. Recently, efforts have been made to reinvigorate the BFDC, including reducing rental fees for shooting floors and equipment to attract more production work.
In an effort to revitalise the BFDC, a plan to reduce rental fees for equipment and studio floors has been introduced. This experimental initiative, aimed at attracting more filmmakers to shoot at BFDC, will run for six months.
The election to appoint new leadership for the Film Directors’ Association, initially scheduled for the end of last year, was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. A new date was set for January 10, but voting did not take place on the day either. As a result, the leadership selection remains pending.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced changes to the National Film Awards 2023 jury board. The board, initially reformed on September 15, has undergone modifications with new members appointed in place of some earlier listed names.
