Police yesterday sued eight officials of the fire-ravaged BM Container Depot for negligence but left out the owners of the depot.

At one point there was a huge explosion, triggered by the fire. Nayan went silent and the screen went dark,” recalled Ariful Islam, a friend of Oliur Rahman Nayan.

As Chittagong Medical College Hospital’s designated burn unit ran out of space, its gynaecology ward has been turned into a burnt unit for providing treatment to those injured in the fire and subsequent explosions at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda upazila.
Fire Service officials were not informed about the presence of chemicals in the containers at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram.
The death toll in the fire and subsequent explosions at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram has increased to 16 while hundreds of people, including police and fire service personnel sustained burn injuries in the incident.
