The Greek classical play "Medea" was staged yesterday evening by Dhaka Theatre at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's Studio Theatre Auditorium in the capital’s Segun Bagicha Road. Directed by Humayun Kabir Himu, this production marks the 51st theatrical endeavour by Dhaka Theatre – a prominent theatrical organisation in Bangladesh. Professor Abdus Selim provided the Bengali translation for it, adapting from George Theodoridis' English translation of the play.
Dhaka Theatre joins this celebration by bestowing the esteemed 'Seilm Al Deen Padak' upon the illustrious actor Pijush Bandyopadhyay and the eminent theatre personality Syed Jamil Ahmed.
The celebration will be graced by noted cultural personalities including the likes of – Ramendu Majumdar, Ferdousi Mazumder, Mamunur Rashid, M Hamid and Syed Salauddin Zaki. Besides that, an art exhibition on Orientalism and Dualism will be opened from 5:30pm and the play “Prachyo” will be staged at 7 pm.
“Padma Nodir Majhi” is one of such works that will always be remembered. Some more of his remarkable works are—"Ghuddi”, “Lalsalu”, “Moner Manush” “Kittonkhela”, and “Shurujmia”, among others. He made his silver screen debut with the 1973 film, “Abar Tora Manush Ho”.
