For the first time in India’s parliamentary elections, the country’s Election Commission is to undertake exercise of matching EVM results with Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine slips during vote-count of the ongoing polls on May 23.
India’s Election Commission (EC) seeks a report from the West Bengal chief electoral officer on a Bangla feature film stated to be a “biopic on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee” after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) sought a ban on commercial release of the film in the midst of the country’s parliamentary elections.
As India gears up for its general election, one must not lose sight of the sheer size of the exercise, which has been described as the “biggest humanly managed event in the world.”
The Election Commission has never done it before and had developed an independent status since TN Seshan. He had given it a stature which was admired by the electorate.
