"My husband is at least alive, even if his left hand has been amputated. The charred bodies of 36 fire victims of the fire tragedy at BM Container Depot in Chattogram’s Sitakunda could not be identified by the family members, said Mominur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Chattogram.
“We were all together after the fire broke out at the container depot. Nayan was the first to go on Facebook live – providing updates on the fire. At one point there was a huge explosion, triggered by the fire. Nayan went silent and the screen went dark,” recalled Ariful Islam, a friend of Oliur Rahman Nayan.
The Chattogram depot fire has once again exposed the severe negligence in the handling of hazardous chemicals in Bangladesh.
A woman was seen running around Chittagong Medical College Hospital – holding her 3-year-old daughter in one hand and her 8-year-old son in the other – looking for her husband.
