The government will form a new wage board for the garment sector in response to the apparel workers’ continued unrest in the previous four consecutive days, Lawmaker Shajahan Khan said today.
The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) on April 14 issued a statement saying the government will take legal action against factory owners if they fail to pay workers by April 16.
Hundreds of workers of different garment factories in Dhaka, Chattogram and Narayanganj staged demonstrations demanding their salaries for March.
At least 25 people, most of whom were garment workers demanding their pending salaries, and three policemen were injured during a clash at Mymensingh’s Bhaluka upazila this morning.
