‘Sarigaan’ is a type of folk song, sung by boatmen. It is also known as the "workman's song". It derives its name from the fact that boatmen or crew typically sit in a sari or row, while singing such songs. It is also popular among workers since it relieves boredom and helps them maintain the pace of their rowing.
